Job Description Our client based in Modderfontein requires the service of an Explosives & Industrial Engineer

Key Performance Areas
Plant and equipment development:
•Assist in developing new plant and equipment to manufacture the company products Globally
Product Development and Qualification Service:
•Provides initiating systems testing and qualifications services.
•Act as Far and near range master during experiments, trials and qualifications.
•Conduct "characterization" trials and marketing field trials (This includes explosives products for example, New Fuse head compositions)
•Liaise with external Testing Houses and bodies such as Naschem, AEL, Gerotek, Explo Labs and Houwtech for approved qualifications of product according to relevant international standards.

Technical writing:
•Develop and review Product and Material specifications.
•Compile Qualification specifications and methods. Conduct tests specified and write final qualification report.
• Ensure Quality Management System documentation compliance in all development work.

Quality Engineering:
•Resolve customer complaints and drive corrective action to root cause.
•Investigate plant failures, field failures and incident causes. Design and conduct experiments to prove or disprove hypotheses. Dissect and analyse failure samples of all the company products.

Quality Assurance:
•Perform product, process and system audits as appropriate at Channel Partners, suppliers and customers.
•Perform destructive testing of all the company products (eg NetStart, NetShock, Shot range) at near range when required.

Supplier quality:
•Support Quality Engineers in qualification, development and support of suppliers.
•Carry out external supplier audits

Qualifications and expertise required
•An Engineering Degree or diploma.
•Tertiary qualification in explosives is desirable.
•Blasting or demolition experience will be an advantage.
Specific experience required
•Minimum of 10 years experience in explosives technology and/or manufacturing environment is essential.
•Must have a high level of computer literacy - Proficiencies in MS Office products; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.
•Exposure to ISO business management systems and auditing.
•Technical writing experience - Specifications and reports.

Competencies (skills, knowledge and characteristics)
•Strong mathematical (Statistics) and analytical skills.
•Must have the ability to function both independently as well as in a matrix organization to interface with design teams, manufacturing, supply chain management, and program management personnel, along with customers.
•Excellent technical writing skills in English, using MS Word is essential
•Fully conversant with ISO systems and Local and International Standards for approval of electronic detonators and associated equipment. Experience on implementing or auditing ISO systems will be advantages.
•Mechanical aptitude is essential.
