Job Description POSITION: Project Accountant
ROLE: To manage the project accounting function, provide the relevant input into the appropriate forums and to influence stakeholders as to ensure continuous improvement.
Monitors and reports on the actual financial performance on large multi-million rand projects against the budget in consultation with the Cost Engineer.
Responsible for all financial aspects of projects working with technical team and function.
Responsible for various; forms of reporting including cash management/flow reports, contract cost reports, financial reports, quarterly reviews and contract cost reports.
Other areas of responsibility include cost control, invoicing, local and international reporting, forecasts, budgets, strong internal controls, taxation, audits, statutory returns and compliance with applicable legislations.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.Comm / CIMA, Project Accounting Qualification & ABILITIES Knowledge, capabilities and practices associated with formulating, planning, implementing, managing, tracking and evaluating work and its associated requirements and risks, ranging from one-time projects to program-level work.
Critical abilities are to define customer and stakeholder needs and constraints, reduce ambiguity in objectives, develop and manage an efficient project organizational structure, and apply system architecture principles to develop and manage technical requirements in order to achieve the appropriate balance between resources, schedule, and technical requirements.
Includes knowledge associated with system architecture, finance, budgeting, risk assessment, schedule, configuration management, contract technical management, and project controls Familiar with computerized financial systems Project Management Ability – knowledge of methods, principles or tools for managing projects Effective communication Skills – ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders Customer Orientation Skills – insists and /or provides high quality service for internal and external stakeholders, demonstrates customer focus by seeking out, understanding and responding to the needs of the parties Analytical Skills – ability to analyse change and guage impact thereof Good Business acumen – ability to Client Service Orientation – ability to deal and relate to people at all levels and respond promptly and accurately to requests for information and advice on finance and accounting matters.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Enthusiastic and Driven and ability to prioritise workload
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of (2) two years experience within a project accounting environment
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: • Preparation of monthly management accounts and cash flow reports for the project in conjunction with the Cost Engineer • Review and analyse financial data from multiple sources in order to understand the current and actual stages of project delivery to identify budget variances and associated causes • Recommending improvements to programme and project delivery managers and implement remedial action • Establishes an invoicing procedure for each project and ensures that this is in accordance with Contract terms and conditions and in accordance with client requirements • Keeps informed of scope changes/variation orders, and obtains client approval and notifies all parties of such changes • Manage reports to provide reliable and accurate financial and operational results • Undertake strategic projects relating to sales, products/services and profitability • Control budgets and ensuring procedures are completed on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis • Registers and checks claims for extras and escalation received from sub-contractors and vendors.
